Poland shows interest in Belarusian timber

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – Poland shows interest in importing Belarusian timber and supports the proposal to intensify investment cooperation. Promising avenues of cooperation were discussed at a meeting between the Belarusian parliamentary delegation and Jadwiga Emilewicz, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology, co-chairwoman of the Belarusian-Polish intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the parliament.

There 3,300 companies from the European Union that operate in Belarus. An estimated 339 of them are Polish firms. The parties discussed direct investment and export credit, and emphasized the need for the intergovernmental commission to meet on a regular basis.

“Poland has expressed big interest in the import of timber. The issue will be discussed with the corresponding regulators taking into account Belarus' national interests,” the press service said.

Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich suggested resuming the activity of the working group on energy, increasing volumes of transport and logistics services in line with the Belarusian infrastructure capacities and the planned development of the transport hub in Malaszewicze, Poland.

The parties also talked over the ways to develop joint capacities in Poland to produce electric transport. Belarus and Poland reaffirmed the need to take additional measures for the preparation and organization of the Belarusian-Polish economic forum Good Neighborliness, including the interest in wider interregional cooperation. The minister assured Belarus of Poland's support in OECD and WTO matters.
