PM: Harvest in Belarus is close to completion

“We have conducted a serious mobilization of resources, both human and financial. The state once again helped the farmers amid the current unfavorable weather conditions to minimize the harvest shortfall compared to last year. The harvesting campaign in the country has been almost completed. The harvest of most crops will be over by 7 November. Vegetables and cereals have been cropped. The harvesting of leguminous crops has almost been finished. We will be able to ensure food security of the country,” said Roman Golovchenko.

Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Krupko told the media that maize had already been on 97% of its areas. Some 30,000 hectares of maize is left to harvest. “We expect to harvest 1.6 million tonnes. Just a few days more and the harvest of grain maize will be completed in all farms,” Ivan Krupko added.

Some 12,000 hectares of sugar beet is left to harvest. “Fall plowing works are underway. Such works have been done on 906,000 hectares, 200,000 hectares more than as of the same date last year. We will complete these works by 20 November,” the minister said.

The Belarusian prime minister visited the agricultural company Dzerzhinsky on 5 November. Roman Golovchenko was briefed on the financial and economic activities and prospects of the company, as well as the results of the harvesting campaign in Minsk Oblast.
