PM: Elimination of barriers in mutual trade remains a priority for the CIS

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) - The elimination of obstacles in mutual trade in the CIS remains a priority, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at a meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Sochi on 8 June, BelTA has learned.

“Elimination of obstacles in mutual trade is a priority task. Thanks to the persistence of the parties and the consistent work of the CIS Executive Committee in December 2022, certain progress has been achieved. A list of mutual claims has been compiled, and a permanent high-level working group has been set up. It held its first meeting in May 2023,” Roman Golovchenko said.

He stressed the fact that not all the countries participated in the meeting. “I would like to take this opportunity to ask you, dear colleagues, to instruct the responsible executives in your countries to take maximum responsibility for their participation in the high-level working group on removing obstacles in mutual trade. I would like to ask [CIS Secretary General] Sergei Lebedev to keep an eye on the issue and report on the interim results at the next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council,” the prime minister added.

He added that Belarus would host the 2nd CIS Games in August 2023. “We know that the CIS countries are going to send their sport teams to Belarus. We will be very happy to host the athletes of the CIS countries at this event,” Roman Golovchenko said and invited the CIS heads of government to take part in the sport festival as guests of honor.
