MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Belarus expects to reach a strategic decision on the transshipment of export cargoes through the ports of Russia's Murmansk Oblast, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Murmansk Oblast Governor Andrei Chibis on 25 May, BelTA has learned.

“The issues of using the northern direction for transshipment of Belarusian export cargos through the infrastructure of Murmansk Oblast are under thorough discussion. We intend to reach some final strategic decision during the visit to Murmansk. Preparatory work has been done. A lot of information has been gathered on various options. When the strategic decision is made, we will need to quickly work it out in terms of interaction of legal entities and also financial and economic issues,” Roman Golovchenko said.

According to him, despite the fact that the parties are still working on the final decision, cooperation in the transport and logistics sector is in full swing. “Last year the volume of our cargo transshipment through Murmansk amounted to slightly more than 30,000 tonnes, and exceeded 95,000 tonnes in the four months of this year,” the prime minister said.
