PM: All Belaruskali units operate almost at full capacity

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – All Belaruskali units are operating almost at full capacity, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said in an interview with the ONT TV channel on 20 August, BelTA has learned.

“Three or four days ago the situation there was quite difficult, there was an attempt to fan up tensions. I visited the enterprise on the instruction of the president to study the situation," Roman Golovchenko said.

He noted that Belaruskali pays good salaries, offers a very good social package. “When emotions subsided and people weighed pros and cons, when they analyzed where they are urged to do and what they get from the state enterprise, the situation changed dramatically. Now all ore departments and factories are working almost at full capacity,” the Prime Minister stressed.

Amid this situation at the Belarusian enterprise, Uralkali has ramped up the production and sale of potash fertilizers, the cost of shares of other foreign competitors has gone up, Roman Golovchenko said. “They have made money on this wave of emotions. I think everything is obvious here," the prime minister added.

According to the head of government, the protests at the Belarusian enterprises are staged and their purpose is not a dialogue with the authorities. “I am absolutely sure that not only provocateurs are involved there. There are people who voted for another candidate and they are dissatisfied with the fact that they are in the minority. It is absolutely clear, however, that these protests are fully staged,” he said.

The prime minister said that one and the same people are going around different enterprises, calling for provocations, “trying to make up a mess”. “I felt it during my visit to MTZ, when in fact, I, the prime minister of the country, was booed to show that the authorities are destroyed and can be disregarded. This is not the way to act in a civilized society. People called for a dialogue, and I came there to talk. They did not need any conversation though. They just needed a picture to show that the authorities have lost power. All that laughter, stamping, and jeering was needed to film a 10-minute video to post on the internet,” said Roman Golovchenko.
