Plans to create electric truck in Belarus

MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – Plans have been made to create an electric truck in Belarus. The news was released by Alexander Belevich, Head of the R&D center Electromechanical and Hybrid Power Units of Mobile Machines of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), at a press conference on 21 September, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Belevich said: “We've made some headway into the development of the electric car. We intend to present it at the end of the year. Work in this area is in full swing. We are closely working with MAZ on commercial vehicles. A project to create an electric truck is being prepared.”

The official said that efforts to develop electric transportation are focused on designing the components – the electric drive and energy accumulators. “Otherwise, we will not be able to ensure localization, which would allow us to say it is a Belarusian product,” explained the expert.

In his words, a program to develop electric transportation in Belarus has been approved by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and forwarded to the Council of Ministers.
