Plans to complete work on agreement on EAEU common gas market in December - January

MOSCOW, 4 December (BelTA) – We are planning to complete the work on an international agreement on the common gas market of the Eurasian Economic Union is planned in December 2020 - January 2021, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich told the media after the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on 4 December, BelTA has learned.

Nine issues were included in the agenda of the meeting, the key of which was the draft strategic areas of the development of Eurasian integration until 2025. "The document is almost ready. One issue reading the common gas market remains unsettled,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. “Here we have Belarus' proposal. It specifies what should be formalized in the draft international agreement on the common gas market, which, I think, we will receive from the draft developer (the Russian Federation) in December of this year or January of next year at the latest. The Russian side does not object to Belarus' proposal but they believe that excessive specification should not be the subject of the document on strategic areas. This could be reflected accordingly, in the relevant wordings of the international agreement as it contains many provisions on prices and tariffs. This is one of the issues covered by this agreement."

"I believe that this is a very good step forward. Taking into account the positions of the parties, I think the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Council on 11 December will be held in a similar businesslike constructive manner,” Mikhail Myasnikovich added.
