Petrishenko: Belarus actively participates in all key digital projects in EAEU

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) - Belarus actively participates in all key projects on the EAEU digital agenda, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko said at the plenary session of the Eurasian Digital Forum in Minsk on 7 June, BelTA has learned.

"Over the years, the forum has become the leading international platform for an effective dialogue between all those interested in the development of the IT industry. Business and expert communities, government bodies of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have the opportunity to discuss and develop strategic solutions for regional digital cooperation and Eurasian digital market," Igor Petrishenko said.

Taking into account the importance and prospects of digital transformations, the plenary session will focus on the most pressing issues of digital transformation of the economies of the countries of the Eurasian space. "Now more than ever it is important to develop economic relations between the states of the Eurasian Economic Union, including with the help of information technologies," the deputy prime minister emphasized. "Belarus has a high potential in ICT, is ready to engage in an open dialogue with all states involved in digital transformation, exchange experience and implement joint projects.”

Belarus, together with its colleagues in the EAEU, actively participates in all key digital projects in the EAEU: digital transport corridors, digital traceability, digital industrial cooperation and technology transfer, data turnover.

“Implementation of digital projects is one of key areas of our work in the Eurasian Economic Union. We have significantly advanced in creating an employment promotion ecosystem: the Work Without Borders unified job search system. We are actively implementing instruments of digital traceability of goods, services and digital assets,” Igor Petrishenko said.

The heads of state approved the main principles of implementing digital projects, which pursue two main goals. First, to prevent the emergence of technological barriers and to increase the openness of the economies of the EAEU member states. Secondly, to achieve global competitiveness and integration into global trade networks. According to the deputy prime minister, to address these tasks, an integrated EAEU information system has been created and is successfully operating. It pools together information resources of the member states and enables data exchange in healthcare and trade, and helps keep track of production and movement of vehicles. Work is underway to create unified registers in standardization and other sectors of the economy. The development of this system is one of the priorities of the EAEU's digital agenda.

“The next step will be the creation of an area of trust. This will increase the efficiency of electronic interaction, enable individuals and legal entities to access electronic services even outside the territory of EAEU, in the countries that will conclude an agreement on accession to the cross-border area of trust. To do this, it is necessary to accelerate the work to launch a full-featured trusted third party service, while not losing sight of the security of data transmission channels,” the deputy prime minister said.

The EAEU is already actively discussing the concept of a digital platform of the Eurasian Economic Union, aimed at implementing mechanisms to provide interstate information services to individuals and business entities, cross-border data exchange in the interaction of public administration bodies at both the EAEU and national levels, and at providing access to services and shared information resources for individuals and business entities, and public authorities of EAEU countries.

“Another task of the EAEU digital agenda is to overcome inequalities in the level of development of information and communication technologies in the EAEU member states, and to unify approaches to ensuring the stable and independent operation of information and communication infrastructure. At the same time, it is important to maintain a balance between solving integration tasks in the digital sector and ensuring digital sovereignty of the EAEU member states,” said Igor Petrishenko.

In his opinion, prompt development of coordinated solutions for these tasks will ensure the effective implementation of the EAEU's digital agenda. “In the future, this will create necessary conditions and opportunities for the full-scale implementation of the EAEU's four freedoms - the freedom of movement of goods, capital, services and workforce. This will also contribute to increasing the efficiency of economic processes, improving the quality of life of citizens, improving managerial processes, increasing product competitiveness and removing barriers to business - something we all strive to achieve. I am confident that the Eurasian Digital Forum will contribute to the further active development of Eurasian cooperation in the digital sector,” the deputy prime minister said.

The International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies TIBO 2022 is running through 10 June. The exhibition is showcasing products and services from well-known manufacturers of telecommunications equipment, hardware and software, mobile and fixed-line operators, developers and suppliers of high-tech products, security systems, intelligent solutions and services for the household and corporate segment, scientific and educational institutions.
