Pandemic challenges expected to help intensify Belarus-Lithuania business cooperation

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – The COVID-19 situation will intensify business cooperation and friendship between Belarus and Lithuania. President of the Lithuanian Business Confederation Andrius Romanovskis made the statement during the online meeting held on 8 July to discuss Belarus-Lithuania trade and economic cooperation after the pandemic, BelTA has learned.

Andrius Romanovskis noted: “Certainly, due to the pandemic the economic situation changed not only inside Lithuania but in international relations, too. Many say that we will never live like we did before but as the Belarusian history and the Lithuanian one demonstrate we know how to adapt to challenges. I think these challenges will only make us stronger and will intensify our business cooperation and friendship.”

Andrius Romanovskis also said he is confident that cooperation between the Lithuanian Business Confederation and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) will grow stronger. “We are always happy to see colleagues from Belarus. Moreover, our tasks and goals are very similar. I think all of it will help resolve problems of not only specific enterprises but general economic ones,” he stressed.

Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich noted that it is very important to reaffirm the eagerness to cooperate and strengthen the dialogue in the complicated conditions brought about by the pandemic. He said: “Diplomatic missions of our countries are interested in advancing effective economic and trade cooperation. The trade turnover that has evolved between our countries in the last few years can be envied by many European countries. It is an important component of cooperation that we should preserve, multiply, and augment on the basis of mutual interest of representatives of the private sector of Belarus and Lithuania. As many as 91 Belarusian companies are taking part in today's meeting. It demonstrates the level of our interest.”

The official said he believes that in conditions of the pandemic it is very important for Belarus and Lithuania to confirm that government institutions, diplomatic institutions, business unions and confederations of the two countries remain committed to cooperation and are ready to support and develop joint projects.
