MOSCOW, 25 May (BelTA) – Intra-EAEU trade has, in fact, been de-dollarized, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksei Overchuk told the media on the sidelines of the EAEU summit in Moscow, BelTA has learned.
When asked whether it is realistic to give up on the U.S. dollar, Aleksei Overchuk said: "As to how long the dollar will last... Well, we do not really care. The dollar did have its role. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stressed many times that it was not us who weaponized the U.S. dollar. But when we are cut off from the dollar and from the euro, we will definitely not sit idly by. We will look for other currencies for mutual settlements.”
"In the first quarter of this year, national currencies were used in 89% of the EAEU transactions to sell goods. In March, this figure was 90%. Therefore, we believe that de-dollarization is already a reality in the Eurasian Economic Union," Aleksei Overchuk added.
