MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – In January-June 2020, companies of all forms of ownership built 20,700 new apartments in Belarus, BelTA learned from the National Statistics Committee.
Some 681,400 square meters of housing (38.4% of all new housing) were built for people on the state housing register. Some 515,300 square meters of this housing was built with state support.
Br2.6 billion (or 20.3% of all capital investment) was channeled into housing construction in H1, up 5% in comparable prices year-on-year.
The construction industry generated 5.6% of the country's gross domestic product in 2019. As of early 2020, there were 8,332 construction companies in Belarus. In 2019 the construction industry employed 276,600 people or 6.4% of the country's workforce. Nearly one in five workers were people under 31.
