Opinion: Small and medium-sized business in Belarus on a steady path

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) - Small and medium-sized business in Belarus is ona steady development path, Chairman of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurship Igor Chernyakov said at the regular meeting of the general assembly of the confederation, BelTA has learned.

In Belarus small and medium-sized businesses have been doing well, Igor Chernyakov emphasized. "It has long been noticed that over time difficulties, restrictions and sanctions turn into an opportunity for the development. Being the most flexible industry small and medium-sized business adjusts quickly," he said.

Business is now redirecting commodity flows and is refocusing from intermediation and resale of goods to their production. "This requires support from the state, and we see a very thoughtful work of the government that keep in close contact with the business community. More and more tools emerge to support export-oriented manufactures, to get serious preferences in terms of finance, obtaining unused property. Despite the reduction in the number of small and medium-sized businesses, the volume of products and services provided in kind and as a percentage of the country's gross domestic product is growing steadily. We are making efforts to move forward,” Igor Chernyakov noted.

A regular meeting of the General Assembly of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs is held every 4 years. This is the highest governing body of the confederation bringing together representatives of business, scientific institutions, education, enterprises, banks, funds and so on. The event elected the presidium of the supreme coordination council and the audit commission and approved the confederation's priorities in accordance with the priorities of the state programs of Belarus.
