Opinion: Export support decree will make it easier for Belarusian SMEs to tap into foreign markets

MINSK, 15 November (BelTA) - Decree No.412 signed by the head of state the day before will make it easier for both flagship companies and also small and medium-sized enterprises to tap into foreign markets, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Vladimir Ulakhovich said in an interview with BelTA.

Today there are various, both state and non-state, tools to support exporters. Decree No. 412 is another important addition to the list, he said. “This means additional support to exporters, not only our flagship companies but also middle-sized enterprises and even individual entrepreneurs,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.

“In my opinion, this document will help non-state enterprises to gain access to foreign markets and to participate in trade shows. A large number of them are held these days. These events bring together enterprises of specific industries. Their focus is more targeted,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.

Equally important will be the support of exporters in terms of compensation for the expenses on product compliance assessment abroad. It can also be provided to individual entrepreneurs, who, according to Vladimir Ulakhovich, produce quite competitive goods but who are often held back by various barriers, including financial ones,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.

Participation in exhibitions is very important for the development of export and foreign economic relations. “As practice shows, direct contacts are more effective and bring concrete results,” said Vladimir Ulakhovich. Recently, enterprises have shown an increased interest in exhibitions. They understand that if they do not go round promoting their products, they will have no results,” he added.

As it has been reported, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No.412, according to which the state will compensate up to 50% of the money Belarusian exporters spend on foreign expos and certification.
