Opinion: Belarus and Russia have reached agreements the successful operation of the economies needs

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have reached agreements the successful operation of their economies needs, BelTA learned from Viktor Sayevich, an economist, a professor of the Belarusian State Economic University. The professor made a few comments about the latest round of negotiations between Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

According to Viktor Sayevich, Belarus and Russia have managed to resolve the most complicated problem – prices for energy resources. “The Belarus president is satisfied with results of the discussion about the common market of natural gas and prices for the next three years. They managed to secure the level of prices that the successful operation of our enterprises needs. It is a very important strategic moment,” the professor said.

Close attention was also paid to the matter of import substitution. “A large number of Western companies have stopped operations on the Russian market. This is why new niches have opened for us. Since our production sector has been working all these years and didn't stop working even during the pandemic, it can substitute a lot and can reach new heights in its development,” the professor noted. “Belarusian industrial enterprises were given a green light. For Russia Belarus is now a powerful industrial hub, which will help substitute a lot of things.”
