No plans to raise limits of Belarus' state debt in 2020

MINSK, 5 August (BelTA) – State debt limits are being observed, there are no plans to raise them, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Finance Minister Andrei Belkovets on 5 August.

The official said: “As of early August we are within all the limits, we don't intend to raise them. The limits were calculated taking into account our evaluations of economic security parameters. They will not be exceeded. The debt level will remain at a manageable level.”

Payments on the state debt have totaled Br4 billion since the beginning of the year, including Br2.8 billion to repay the debt and Br1.2 billion to service the debt.

“In the second half of the year we will have to pay the equivalent of Br5 billion, including Br3.5 billion to repay the debt and Br1.5 billion to service the debt. The budget has sufficient planned resources for these goals,” the deputy finance minister said.

As of 1 July Belarus' state debt totaled Br52.6 billion, Br7.8 billion up or 17.5% up since the beginning of the year. The figure makes up 34.9% of the GDP, which essentially is within economic security parameters, Andrei Belkovets stressed.

As of 1 July Belarus' external state debt stood at $18 billion. The figure increased by $0.9 billion (taking into account differences in currency exchange rates) or by 5.3% since the beginning of the year. The internal state debt totaled Br9.3 billion as of 1 July, 6.4% up since the beginning of the year.
