MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) - Governor of Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Gleb Nikitin gave his assessment of the Belarusian-Russian tram during his meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko on 18 April, BelTA has learned.
“Four trams are already running in Nizhny Novgorod. The city is very hilly, with elevation differences, and this is a special challenge for trams. Separate tests were conducted. Some of the trams are already plying in the historic center, where there are a lot of ascents and descents. The tram has proven its worth,” Gleb Nikitin said.
According to him, those in charge of reforming the public transportation sector said that it was the right decision. “I see that potential buyers are also interested and want to see this tram in their cities too,” the governor said.
A reminder, a joint venture to produce Belarusian-Russian trams opened in Vorsma, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, on 3 December 2022. The new production facility was inaugurated by Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoi, Belarusian Industry Minister Aleksandr Rogozhnik, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Governor Gleb Nikitin, and Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov.
The joint venture Nizhekotrans, co-founded by BKM (Belarus), was registered in September 2022. The company is to localize tram production for the needs of Nizhny Novgorod in accordance with the agreements reached earlier between the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and BKM.
