Next round of negotiations on Belarus WTO accession scheduled for March 2018

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) - The next round of multilateral negotiations on the accession of Belarus to the World Trade Organization is scheduled for March 2018, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing on 7 December, BelTA informs.

The Belarusian delegation headed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yevdochenko will take part in the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in Buenos Aires, Argentina 10-13 December. The Belarusian delegation also includes representatives of the Economy Ministry and the Agriculture and Food Ministry. The WTO Ministerial Conference is a major international platform to discuss trade, economic and investment issues, trade policy.

“By attending the Ministerial Conference Belarus reaffirms its position as an active member of the international economic community. But above of all, for Belarus this is an important element of the negotiation process for accession to the World Trade Organization and preparation for the next round of multilateral negotiations. It has been tentatively scheduled for March next year,” Dmitry Mironchik said.

During the Ministerial Conference the Belarus delegation is scheduled to meet with the WTO Secretary General, delegations of the WTO key members. Belarus is set to sign protocols on completion of bilateral negotiations on market access for goods and services with several countries. In 2017 Belarus already signed such agreements with the Republic of Korea, Japan, Ecuador, and Norway.
