Next forum of regions of Belarus, Russia to net at least $500m in contracts

MINSK, 16 June (BelTA) – There are plans to sign contracts worth at least $500 million during the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. The forum is supposed to take place in Minsk and the oblast in late September, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Isachenko before the joint session of the committee in charge of organizing the forum on 16 June.

The senator said that following the established tradition contracts, cooperation agreements, and other documents like that will be signed during the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. “We have reasons to expect more than $500 million now. I think the figure will be much larger,” he noted in response to questions about the total value of the contracts. Anatoly Isachenko added that the agreements focus on the manufacturing sector, civil engineering, and agriculture. “We are working on all the areas,” the senator stressed.

Preparations for the forum proceed on schedule. The session of the organizing committee was held as a videoconference. Participants of the session discussed the agenda. The forum's schedule will include five sections, sessions of the Business Cooperation Council, the interparliamentary commission of the upper chambers of the Belarusian parliament and the Russian one. The forum will traditionally culminate in a plenary session, in which the heads of state of Belarus and Russia are expected to participate.

The forum will tentatively take place on 23-25 September. It will focus on the historical legacy of the Great Victory, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Yuri Vorobyev reminded. He stressed: “We have to make the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia one of the most significant events in the series of events timed to the 75th anniversary of the Victory. The forum should serve the advancement of traditional economic and cultural ties between regions of Belarus and Russia,” he stressed.
