Minsk generates over quarter of Belarus' GDP in January-September

MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – The Main Statistical Department of Minsk has published the first evaluation of the gross regional product in January - September 2020. The report has revealed a significant contribution of the capital city to the country's GDP, BelTA informs.

At the same time, this figure dropped compared with the same period last year. “The gross regional product amounted to Br29.7 billion in current prices, or 98.4% as against January-September 2019 in comparable prices,” the Main Statistical Department informed. Earlier the National Statistical Committee revealed that Belarus' GDP amounted to Br106.6 billion in current prices.

Trade is of the economic mainstay of Minsk: it generates more added value than any other economic sector. In January-September, wholesale trade of the capital city amounted to Br45,257.3 million, or 89.9% as against January-September 2019 in comparable prices. Retail trade made up Br11,879.6 million (101.2%).

Industrial output of Minsk was Br13,671.5 million in current prices, or 98.6% as against January-September 2019 in comparable prices.

Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs transported 49.7 million tonnes of cargo (94.2% as against the last year). Passenger transport services were used by 474.8 million people, or 80.3% as against the same period of 2019.
