Minsk expected to host Eurasian economic forum in 2020

YEREVAN, 1 October (BelTA) – Plans have been made for Minsk to host a Eurasian economic forum in 2020. The relevant agreement was reached at the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Yerevan, Armenia on 1 October, BelTA has learned.

Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko told reporters that the forum is supposed to gather heads of state. “An economic forum is going to be held in the presiding country and will gather presidents. We've determined how the forum will be prepared in order to make it a powerful event to accompany the session [of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council],” he noted. The first forum of the kind is supposed to take place in Minsk next year.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan suggested organizing a business forum of the Eurasian Economic Union during the last summit. According to the Armenian prime minister, the forum should take place alongside a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in the capital of the country presiding in the Eurasian Economic Union. Belarus will take over the presidency in the Eurasian Economic Union in February 2020.

The forum will be organized at the expense of the union's budget with financial assistance of the country presiding in EAEU bodies.
