MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – By the end of the year, BelGee will receive 9,700 car sets from China, Belarusian Industry Minister Piotr Parkhomchik told the media following the meeting of the Council of Ministers to discuss the functioning of the country's economy under sanctions and measures to overcome them, BelTA has learned.
"Geely is an international company. It has large assets in Europe and America. This car has a lot of components that are supplied from European countries. Production of Geely cars involves international cooperation. Therefore, naturally, there is a certain pressure from European countries and America to ensure that these components are not supplied to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. Negotiations were very intense. We even had to involve the president to resolve this issue. Just last week, an agreement was reached that by the end of the year 9,700 car sets will be shipped to the Republic of Belarus," Piotr Parkhomchik said.
“We will try to assemble all these cars,” the minister stated. "But to reach the figures of last year (30,000) there's just not enough time left. We have spent too much time to find ways and methods to deliver these vehicle kits to the Republic of Belarus. Therefore, starting from September, BelGee will produce 2,500-2,600 cars,” he added.
