Memorandum signed to sell Belarusian potash fertilizers to China in containers

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – OAO Belarusian Potash Company has signed a memorandum with the Chinese company CNAMPGC on supplying potash fertilizers to China in containers, the press service of the Belarusian company told BelTA.

The CNAMPGC is a key partner of the Belarusian company on the Chinese market. The two companies started testing deliveries in containers in January 2019. The experiment confirmed the great potential for this area of joint work and resulted in the signing of the new memorandum on cooperation between Belarusian Potash Company and CNAMPGC. The memorandum is designed to encourage the development of shipments in containers to the Chinese market.

The document provides for shipping over 0.5 million tonnes of potash fertilizers in containers to China in 2019-2023. “It is a considerable figure for this type of shipments. The agreement represents a major addendum to the previously signed five-year memorandum of cooperation on selling potash fertilizers to the CNAMPGC,” the press service added.

Belarusian Potash Company representatives also noted that the development of potassium shipments in containers to China represents a promising avenue of business since it creates a higher level of service. Belarusian Potash Company pays close attention to the organization of container transportation as a whole. In 2018 this kind of transportation was close to 10% of the total export.

The memorandum was signed by Director General of Belarusian Potash Company Yelena Kudryavets and CNAMPGC Deputy Director General Wang Bei.

The document was signed when top executives of the Chinese association ACFSMC and the Chinese company CNAMPGC visited Belarus on 16-19 May. The delegation visited Belarusian Potash Company and the potash mining company OAO Belaruskali while in Belarus.

Speaking about results achieved by the Belarusian company on the Chinese market, ACFSMC Chairwoman of the Board of Directors Wang Xia said: “As the structure of demand for fertilizers in China changes, targeted and highly-effective logistics support has already become an important necessity. This is why we are happy about the signing of the memorandum of cooperation between Belarusian Potash Company and the CNAMPGC with regard to shipping potash fertilizers in containers. We are convinced that this format will become a new milestone in our cooperation. Apart from that, we are confident that in the future the CNAMPGC will promote Belarusian Potash Company's high-quality products in a timely and effective manner on the end consumer market. It will allow making a joint contribution to raising the quality and effectiveness of Chinese agriculture at this important stage of modernization of the structure of the fertilizer market.”

After underscoring the importance of the visit of the Chinese delegation and the signing of the new document, Yelena Kudryavets noted: “Our fruitful cooperation with the ACFSMC and the CNAMPGC relies on the mutual striving for constant development and growth. Transportation in containers creates a new niche in our interaction. The signed memorandum will become another step in the development of the CNAMPGC‘s potash business in China. In turn, Belarusian Potash Company intends to continue optimizing potassium deliveries to the Chinese market by improving logistic solutions, adapting to needs of Chinese agriculture, and confirming broad prospects of interaction between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China.”

The public joint-stock company (OAO) Belarusian Potash Company is one of the world's largest exporters of potassium. In 2018 the company's share in the global export of potash fertilizers hit a record high of 20.5%. The company exports fertilizers to nearly 130 countries.

The All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives (ACFSMC) is a government agency in charge of supplying agriculture with all the necessary means of production, including fertilizers, protection means, and equipment. The agency is directly responsible to the State Council of the People's Republic of China and in essence works as a specialized ministry.

The China National Agricultural Means of Production Group Corporation (CNAMPGC) is a trade body of the ACFSMC and is one of the largest players on the Chinese market of mineral fertilizers.
