Mayor: All companies in Brest operate as normal

BREST, 26 August (BelTA) – All companies in Brest are operating in a normal mode, Brest Mayor Aleksandr Rogachuk told the media on 26 August, BelTA has learned.

“All Brest companies have worked and continue working in a normal mode. Workers understand that they need to earn money. The move to leave the market may result in losing it however. At present there are no problems with the operation of companies,” Aleksandr Rogachuk said.

The mayor added that some enterprises are working on expanding their production line. The matter pertains to Brest Lamp Factory, Brestsmash. Brestkoye Pivo, with the recent change of ownership, looks quite optimistic. It will be possible to keep the enterprise afloat as well as its staff. Brest Carpets has made part of the Vitebsk Holding Company. The company had a meeting with the management of Vitebsk Carpets. There is an interest to keep the enterprise in the same format and get more investments,” he said.

According to Aleksandr Rogachuk, the Brest souvenir factory Slavyanka is having difficult times. “The company is still looking for its place in the modern economy. We also need to think what to do with Brestselmash. It is a non-state enterprise. Its workers, however, need to see the prospects,” the mayor said.
