GOMEL, 24 May (BelTA) – Manufacturing cooperation projects should be the foundation for advancing Belarus-Moldova interaction. The opinion was voiced by Ambassador of Moldova to Belarus Victor Sorochan on the sidelines of the 16th Gomel Economic Forum on 24 May, BelTA has learned.

The ambassador believes that the sides do not use the full potential of trade, manufacturing cooperation, and business relations. “Manufacturing cooperation projects able to create modern products with a high added value and offer jobs should be the engine of our interaction,” he stressed.

Modern assembly enterprises operate in Moldova now. “We are interested in not only expanding the lineup of the tractors, automobiles, and agricultural machines we assemble but in increasing the volumes,” the ambassador said.

Moldova can become an advantageous and reliable point for Belarusian companies to access the European Union market. The establishment of enterprises based on manufacturing cooperation looks like one of the ways to accomplish that. The planting of new varieties of Moldovan grapes in Belarus and the construction of dairy farms in Moldova using Belarusian experience were mentioned as promising projects. “Only by making things together can we achieve the high quality of products and higher export potential,” Victor Sorochan believes.

According to the ambassador, maintaining a dialogue between representatives of the business circles of the two countries, including through participation in economic events, is another important aspect of cooperation. The diplomat said he was ready to support proposals on promising joint projects in various areas: agriculture, seed production, civil engineering, transportation, logistics, innovations and technologies, pharmaceutics.

Some of the mentioned options look interesting for India from the point of view of advancing cooperation. Ambassador of India to Belarus Sangeeta Bahadur noted: “We are on the lookout for contact points, new projects the two sides can implement. Negotiations on some of them are now in progress,” she noted.

Speaking about prospects of implementing pharmaceutics projects in Gomel Oblast, the ambassador pointed out it had been done in other parts of Belarus. Sangeeta Bahadur met with top officials of the Gomel Oblast administration two months ago and discussed the availability of spare premises so that Indian companies could bring their capital and equipment into the region.

About 500 people from 28 countries are taking part in the Gomel Economic Forum this year. The oblast's economic and investment potential is presented during the forum. Nine documents worth over $130 million were signed during the plenary session. After the plenary session the work continued in five panel sessions. Participants of the forum also visited the 20th international expo Spring in Gomel.
