MOSCOW, 9 June (BelTA) – Eight out of 11 trade barriers have been removed in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) over the past year, official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Iya Malkina told the media following the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting in Sochi on 7-8 June. The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting was attended by Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, BelTA has learned.
According to Iya Malkina, the topic of trade barriers is constantly in the spotlight at the meetings of the Intergovernmental Council. “There is an active work underway on the remaining three barriers. The relevant draft regulations, which will remove these remaining barriers, have been worked out,” she said.
“Over the past year we have made changes to our barrier removing methodology. We actively apply the so-called mediative approach when we see that countries may have taken a decision that could be a barrier to our market, and we are working with the member state to make additional decisions to address the issue. This has already helped us remove five barriers before their qualification as a barrier. For the seven obstacles, which are not yet recognized as barriers, but there is such a threat, we are actively working to take decisions at the national level to prevent them,” the EEC official representative added.
