IMF's March mission to Belarus postponed

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – An International Monetary Fund mission, which was supposed to work in Belarus on 19-30 March, has been postponed, BelTA learned from the IMF representative office in Minsk.

The decision has been prompted by the Washington-based HQ intention to restrict business trips of IMF personnel due to the global coronavirus situation.

BelTA reported earlier that an IMF mission was supposed to work in Belarus on 19-30 March for Article IV consultations. Bilateral consultations with member states are arranged within the framework of this article. It is usually done every year. A number of IMF specialists are expected to arrive, gather economic and financial information, and discuss economic changes and economic policy with government agencies. The IMF specialists prepare a report after returning to the IMF HQ.

Previously the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank decided to arrange an annual spring session in the format of a video conference due to the coronavirus situation.
