IMF mission to start working in Belarus on 29 October

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to review the economic situation in Belarus will start working in Minsk on 29 October, BelTA learned from the IMF office in Belarus.

“The IMF mission led by Jacques Miniane will work in Minsk from 29 October till 5 November. The aim of the mission is to review the current economic situation in the country,” the IMF office noted.

The IMF mission is set to meet with representatives of the Belarusian government, the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, and experts.

Earlier, Belarus' Finance Minister Maksim Yermolovich said that Belarus plans to consider a new program with the IMF next week. “The basis for the negotiations is there. Therefore, we plan to discuss the results of the government's measures to stabilize the macroeconomic situation and the possibility to launch a program in order to support the structural changes during the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the IMF and the World Bank,” Maksim Yermolovich noted.

Belarus has been an IMF member since 1992.
