Higher tariffs expected to compensate Belarus for lower revenues from oil transit

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – There are plans to adjust the transit tariffs in order to compensate for Belarus' inability to pump the intended amounts of oil via the Druzhba oil pipeline due to the polluted oil situation, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim Andrei Rybakov on 12 December.

When asked whether raising transit tariffs was being discussed as a way to compensate for Belarus' lower revenues from oil transit, Andrei Rybakov said the matter was being discussed as part of negotiations on the next year's tariffs.

The Belneftekhim chairman reminded that Belarus and Russia review oil transportation tariffs every year. “We have a procedure in place. We present our arguments and hear out theirs. Finally the discussion ends in our antimonopoly bodies the way it has traditionally happened for the last few years. Representatives of the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry meet and strike a balance. We always have the final figure in February,” Andrei Rybakov added.

BelTA reported earlier that in early August Belarus and Russia reached an agreement on raising tariffs on oil transportation across the Belarusian territory by 3.7% as from 1 September. Apart from that, the sides intended to use this year's statistics to analyze the situation with oil transportation via the Belarusian section of the pipeline and determine the size of further changes of the tariffs.
