Harvesting in full swing in Belarus

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) – Harvesting is underway in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 21 July, 120,700 hectares of early cereal and leguminous crops were cut to make up 5.5% of the total area. Gomel Oblast is in the lead with 59,900 hectares cropped (17.6%). Brest Oblast harvested 29,700 hectares (8.79%), Grodno Oblast – 16,800 hectares (5.27%), Minsk Oblast – 12,600 hectares (2.6%), Mogilev Oblast – 1,780 hectares (0.53%). Vitebsk Oblast has not started its harvesting season yet. A total of 443,800 hectares have been so far produced across the country, with the average yield sitting at 36.8 centners per hectare.

Flax has been cropped on the area of 11.400 hectares (23.4% of the total area). The second cut for hay was made on the area of 618,000 hectares (75.5%). The country's stockpiles currently include 537,600 tonnes of hay (53.2% of the plan), 11.49 million tonnes of haylage (91.2%) and 486,300 tonnes of silage (2.54%).

This year Belarus plans to store 9.3 million tonnes of grass forage.
