Harvest 2020: Over half of colza cropped in Belarus

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) – Belarusian farmers have cut colza on the area of 170,600 hectares, which is 53% of the total area, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 20 July, an estimated 359,500 tonnes of colza was produced, with the average yield sitting at 21.1 centners per hectare. The cropping of winter cress is almost complete. The harvest has so far made up 25,600 tonnes at the average yield of 9.69 centners per hectare.

Plans are in place to crop early cereal and leguminous crops (except for maize, buckwheat and millet) from more than 2.2 million hectares this year. A total of 92,700 hectares (4.22% of the total area) have been combined so far. Some 344,200 tonnes of grain has been produced, with the average yield at 37.2 centners per hectare. Winter rye has been harvested on the area of 20,100 hectares (5.57% of the plan), wheat – on the area of 21,500 hectares (3.19%), triticale – 18,300 hectares (4%), barley – 31,500 hectares (7.96%), and oats – 0,240 hectares (0.16%).

Flax has been cropped on the area of 10.140 hectares (20.8% of the total area). The second cut for hay was made on the area of 607,100 hectares (74.2%).

This year Belarus plans to store 9.3 million tonnes of grass forage.
