Half of areas under potatoes sown in Belarus

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Belarus has sown some 11,200 hectares with potatoes, what makes up 51.7% of the areas allocated under potatoes, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 29 April, some 809.800 hectares (94.1%) were planted with cereal and leguminous crops (except for maize, buckwheat and millet). Fieldwork has almost completed in Brest Oblast, Gomel Oblast, Mogilev Oblast, Minsk Oblast, and Grodno Oblast. Some 71.7% of areas have been sown in Vitebsk Oblast. An estimated 860,900 hectares have been allocated for early cereal and leguminous crops in the country this year.

The sowing of linen flax is 93.5% complete. It is some 47,100 hectares. Sugar beet has been sown on 84.800 hectares (92.7%). The sowing of vegetables is 58.3% complete (2,620 hectares), that of maize – 43.1% (487,600 hectares), that of colza – 76% (39,700 hectares).

Spring sowing will be conducted on the area of almost 2.6 million hectares.
