Grodno to build cooperation with Turkey's Edirne Province

MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – A Grodno delegation led by Grodno Mayor Mechislav Goy visited Turkey's Edirne Province on 10-12 June. The visit took place with the support of the Belarusian Embassy in Ankara and the General Consulate in Istanbul, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

The delegation included representatives of the Grodno Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yanka Kupala Grodno State University and a number of local companies.

“The delegation met with Edirne Mayor Recep Gurkan. The parties signed a memorandum of understanding that will pave the way for twin-town relations between Grodno and Edirne. At the meeting with Edirne Governor Ekrem Canalp the parties discussed a possibility to expand interregional contacts,” the embassy informed.

The Grodno delegation also met with the administration and members of the Edirne Chamber of Commerce and Industry to present trade and economic opportunities of Grodno, and to discuss joint investment projects in light industry and mutual supplies of products.

The Belarusian delegation toured a number of local companies with a view to forging new partnerships.

Cooperation in higher learning was also in focus during the visit. The parties discussed promising educational projects and signed an international cooperation agreement between Yanka Kupala Grodno State University and Trakya University, the biggest higher learning institution in Edirne Province.

The parties agreed to arrange a visit of Edirne Province officials and business people to Grodno for the Euroregion international forum in September 2019.
