Great Stone's new resident company launches project in Chinese medicine

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) - The Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone welcomed a new resident company - Novoera Biotech with a project in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, BelTA has learned.

The company has been established with the participation of the Jintai Institute of Culture and Economics, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and one of Beijing-based pharmaceutical technology companies

At the first stage the company plans to produce coronavirus medicines to be later be exported to Ukraine, Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, India and other countries. It is expected that the production of medicines will begin in 2021.

Plans are in place to set up an Eurasian center for traditional Chinese medicine for cultural exchange, diagnostics and treatment. It will provide medical services to personnel of the Great Stone resident companies. The center will develop cooperation with research institutions, healthcare institutions of Belarus and neighboring countries to share experience in traditional Chinese medicine.

"Our new resident will implement an investment project in traditional Chinese medicine. Medicines and additives to be produced here will be made if environmentally friendly organic materials. They will used to treat not only coronavirus but also colds, flu, and asthma. Such projects and programs that focus on health are extremely relevant today, especially now, during the period of coronavirus infection," said Aleksandr Yaroshenko, Head of the Administration of the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone.

According to him, such products have very good export prospects. "The markets of the Eurasian economic space, especially Russia and also Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Turkey, even India are on radar of our partners. I think these products will also be in demand in our country too," he said.

In the future, the company plans to use the therapeutic natural resources of Belarus. "Plans are in place to use environmentally friendly herbs grown in Belarus," the head of the industrial park added.

"The arrival of a new resident is always a happy event as this means investment in our economy. Today we have opened doors to traditional Chinese medicine, which we have already learned many things about. Medicine, which is based on the traditions, plants is always welcome. Of course, there will be a set of registration procedures, validation, and so on. But since China is known for its high-quality traditional medical products, goods, biologically active additives, I think these procedures will not take long. Of course, we will facilitate in every way and speed up these processes," Deputy Healthcare Minister Boris Androsyuk said.

It took the parties slightly over a month to prepare the official agreement, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Xie Xiaoyong noted. “It is very important that the project of the Jintai Institute of Culture and Economics in traditional Chinese medicine will be implemented at the China-Belarus industrial park. This will add traditional Chinese medicine to the list of the parks' activities, advance China-Belarus cooperation in healthcare, and facilitate cooperation in agriculture and foreign trade,” the ambassador stressed.

“This is a landmark event. The park has gotten down to creating a pharmaceutical cluster and developing traditional Chinese medicine. It is not just a method of treatment. It represents the culture, school of thought, history, and wisdom of the Chinese nation. Traditional Chinese medicine has proven its effectiveness as an additional therapy and as a preventative measure in relation to the novel coronavirus,” Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China Yuri Senko noted.

According to him, nowadays, the traditional Chinese medicine is a synergy of huge experience and innovation, which is getting more and more popular all over the world. “I am sure that the project will yield positive results. The project holds promise thanks to the advantages to the Great Stone industrial park as a special economic zone with a special legal regime, unique benefits, logistics as well as access to the large EAEU market and proximity to the large market of the EU,” the ambassador added.

“We hope that we will contribute to the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries and introduce a new aspect in cooperation with Belarus,” Head of the Novoera Biotech company Cai Chuanqing said.

I hope that the organizations of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry will help the company legalize Chinese medicines in Belarus as soon as possible and ease the registration procedures, he said. “This will become a new springboard for the development of herbal medicine in Belarus and other CIS member states,” Cai Chuanqing said.

In addition, the company intends to research more than 400 species of medicinal plants of Belarus and export them to China. “Herbal medicine in China is deeply rooted in history. We want to it to benefit Chinese and Belarusian citizens. We would like to get started as soon as possible. Our order intake is already huge,” Cai Chuanqing noted.

On 18 March, the Belarusian Economy Ministry, the Jintai Institute of Culture and Economics, and China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. also singed a memorandum.

The China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone is a special economic zone with a special legal regime. The park is located 25km from Minsk. The Great Stone is home to 69 resident companies from 14 countries. Priority lines of activity for the park include mechanical engineering, electronics and telecommunications, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, new materials, logistics, e-commerce, data storage and processing.
