Governor: Novgorod farmers opt for Belarusian equipment

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Novgorod Oblast of Russia is interested in the development of comprehensive cooperation with Belarus, Governor of Russia's Novgorod Oblast Andrei Nikitin said as he met with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 17 October, BelTA has learned.

The Russian governor stressed that Novgorod Oblast is ready to take part in joint projects. “Our Novgorod farmers have already voted for Belarusian equipment. More than 50% of equipment is of Belarusian manufacture, and the percentage is growing further. Six dealer centers have been set up,” he said.

According to Andrei Nikitin, Novgorod Oblast had a poor basis for the development of agriculture, and a lot still needs to be done. “Agriculture is gradually developed, including thanks to cooperation with Belarus,” the governor said.

There is big interest in cooperation in other sectors, including construction. Novgorod Oblast participates in many national Russian projects, but it lacks capacities. “We will surely take a look into projects and will be happy to cooperate with our Belarusian counterparts,” Andrei Nikitin said.

“We will have to start from scratch in mechanical engineering, transport. We will discuss buses and utility machinery. As for quality, we understand that Belarusian equipment is highly competitive,” the governor said.
