Government agencies, private sector working to redirect Belarus' export to friendly countries

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Active work of government agencies, industries, and the private sector has been launched to redirect export shipments to markets of friendly countries. Belarusian Deputy Economy Minister Dmitry Yaroshevich made the statement as he commented on the dynamics of foreign trade in merchandise, BelTA has learned.

According to the Economy Ministry, in January-February 2022 Belarus' export rose by 21.5% and exceeded the import growth rate. In monetary terms export reached a nine-year high of $3 billion. “Active work of government agencies, industries, and the private sector has been launched to redirect export shipments to markets of friendly countries in order to preserve positive trends in current conditions. Naturally Russia and China are the most promising markets for us. A total of over $5 billion worth of export can be redirected from Europe to these countries over a short period of time. The export of food, mechanical engineering and light industry products can be fully redirected. The task is facilitated by the fact that our goods have already found their buyers and enjoy demand on these markets. Essentially we will have to increase sale volumes instead of exploring new niches from scratch,” Dmitry Yaroshevich said.

The advancement of manufacturing cooperation ties between enterprises, including by establishing joint enterprises to make the industrial goods that sell well, is another reserve. “The relevant interaction of industry-specific ministries and the chambers of commerce and industry is gaining pace,” the deputy economy minister said.
