Georgia mulling over opening trading house in Belarus

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Georgian businessmen are working on opening the Trading House of Georgia in Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Georgia Mikhail Myatlikov said in an interview to the Argumenty i Fakty newspaper, BelTA has learned.

“As for the opening of the Georgian Trading House, this will certainly promote Georgia's high-quality products to Belarus. As part of this project Georgian businessmen have already registered the company Natural Georgian Products in Belarus this year,” the diplomat said.

He added that Belarus also shows interest in the Georgian market. “As I have already said, the economies of Belarus and Georgia are complementary. We produce things that Georgia does not have and vice versa. Setting up companies in Georgia and getting the Georgian certificate the products made can be supplied to the countries which Georgia have free trade agreements with. Georgia is the leader in the number of free trade agreements in the region,” the diplomat said.

Belarus is interested in expanding the presence on the Georgian market for its trucks, unities, farming and other machinery. “Our companies take part in the corresponding tenders. We are gradually restoring the supplies of Belarusian equipment which once occupied dominant place in Georgia. Of course, today's competition in the world is huge. That is why we need to get the Georgian consumer familiar with the Belarusian industrial products which meet the highest standards and have good value for money,” Mikhail Myatlikov said.

There are a number of projects in agriculture. For example, Georgia is interested in Belarus' experience in developing modern high-tech meat and dairy processing enterprises. The talks are underway to set up pedigree centers and train specialists. Georgia also shows interest in building greenhouses using Belarusian technologies.
