First grass cutting close to 60% in Belarus

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – Belarusian farmers have cut down grass on 794,700ha of land as part of the first cutting, 59.8% of the targeted number, the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

As of 15 June Brest Oblast farmers cut down grass on 89.6% of the targeted area. Progress was at 23.6% in Vitebsk Oblast, 59% in Gomel Oblast, 59.7% in Grodno Oblast, 69.2% in Minsk Oblast, and 49.5% in Mogilev Oblast.

Grass was gathered in from 651,700ha of land, 82% of the area where grass has been cut. Belarusian farmers made 66,400 tonnes of hay (6.95% of the target), 3,829,800 tonnes of haylage (28.5%), and 219,800 tonnes of silage (1.15%).

Plans have been made to make a total of 9.6 million tonnes of feed units out of grass this year. So far 12.1% of the targeted amount has been made. Belarusian farmers are supposed to stock up on nearly 19.8 million tonnes of silage, 13.2 million tonnes of haylage (including 1 million tonnes in polymeric packaging), and 955,200 tonnes of hay.
