Export of metal products via BUCE up 68% in Q1 2021

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – Export of scrap and metal products on the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) soared by 68%, BelTA learned from BUCE's press service.

In Q1 2021, 5,100 tonnes of scrap and ferrous and non-ferrous metal waste and goods from these materials worth a total of $5.5 million were exported via BUCE, which was up by 32% in natural terms and up by 68% in monetary terms year-on-year. Belarusian scrap and metal products were sold to companies from five countries.

“The Baltic states remained our top export markets for scrap and metal waste. In Q1 2021, they accounted for more than 90% of the total export of such goods. The rest was purchased by Russian companies. As for sales of metal products, in particular, reinforcing bars made by the Belarusian steel mill BMZ, the Polish market accounted for the lion's share of their export, because BMZ has many established clients there. In general, BMZ export via BUCE almost tripled over January-March 2020, amounting to $1.5 million,” the press service noted.

In January-March, 339,000 tonnes of metal products worth Br428 million were sold abroad at BUCE trading sessions, which was up by 24% in natural terms and up by 28% in monetary terms over the same period of last year.

Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading session in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with export and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry, and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.
