Export of Belarusian computer, telecommunication, information services 25% up in Q1 2019

MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) – The export of computer, telecommunication, and information services went up by 25% in Belarus in Q1 2019, BelTA learned from Deputy Communications and Informatization Minister Natalya Gordeyenko at a session of the ministry's board.

Positive trends in the development of the domestic market were registered in January-March. For instance, the number of landline broadband Internet subscribers reached 3.21 million while the number of IPTV subscribers rose by 68,000 and stood at 2.04 million. The number of users connected to the smart telephony platform IMS rose by 137,600 to a total of 3.10 million. The number of subscribers connected via GPON technology fiber optic lines increased by 133,000 to 2.33 million.

In Q1 2019 the penetration rate of the LTE mobile communication standard totaled 75.7%. Over 3 million residents of Belarus actively use this technology.

The initial stage to fill the national open data web portal with datasets of public data from government agencies was completed in Q1 2019. Work is now in progress to ensure the web portal's operation using the nationwide automated information system OAIS. The necessary legal conditions are being formulated.

Participants of the session also discussed the implementation of measures and events stipulated by the 2016-2020 national social and economic development program, the 2016-2020 government activity program, and the state program on the development of digital economy and information society in the 2016-2020 period.
