Export of Belarusian bread up by 40% in 2022

MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – The export of Belarusian bread soared 40% in 2022, BelTA has learned.

According to the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, the Belarusian bread market is represented by enterrpises affiliated with the Agriculture and Food Ministry, Minskkhlebprom and Belcoopsoyuz. Export supplies of bread and bakery products grow annually. The increase made up 40% in 2022, if compared to 2021.

According to Deputy Head of the Main Processing Industry Department of the Agriculture and Food Ministry Irina Barantsevich, the annual demand for bread and baked goods in Belarus drops by about 1-2%. She added that this is primarily due to changes in the dietary pattern of Belarusians.

“Belarusian bread is delivered to 15 countries. The Russian Federation accounts for more than 90% of the export, because we have the same taste preferences. Bread is also exported to the CIS countries - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as to Germany, Lithuania, Latvia and the USA. We are actively developing technologies to increase the shelf life of bread. I believe this will help further expand the geography of supplies,” the expert said.

Belarus produces a lot of malt bread. This is a unique energy-consuming four-stage technology, which uses lactic acid bacteria.
