MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – We need to work on achieving technological sovereignty of the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 3 February, BelTA has learned.
"Our states are facing a fundamentally new challenge - to integrate the Eurasian Economic Union into the new world architecture of relations. In order to achieve this important goal, we need to address the following challenges urgently. First of all, these are modernization and cooperation of the economies of our countries, and the achievement of technological sovereignty within the framework of the EAEU. Goods under the Eurasian brand, the production of which involves enterprises of all member states and which are widely represented both in the Eurasian market and in the markets of third countries, should become a reality," Roman Golovchenko said.
With an aim to facilitate industrial cooperation in the EAEU, Belarus initiated a pilot project Eurasian Electric Bus. It is about maximizing the import independence of the EAEU and involving as many industrial enterprises of the EAEU member states as possible in the cooperation process.
"In the EAEU, the national industries make a wide use of parts, assemblies and components from third countries, which does not contribute to the development of intra-union integration. Risks that foreign manufacturers may refuse to supply their products for political or sanctions reasons cannot be ruled out. Such tools are widely used, including for competition reasons. We see that most member states are ready to join the Eurasian Electric Bus project. We believe that the Republic of Kazakhstan will also make a decision to join such the initiative," the prime minister said.
The Belarusian side is ready to play a leading role in this project. "We may demonstrate the results of the Eurasian Electric Bus project as early as the Eurasia is Our Home expo due in Russia's Sochi in June this year," the Belarusian head of government said. Roman Golovchenko called on everyone to step up work on this front.
