MOSCOW, 15 April (BelTA) - The Eurasian Economic Union is considering developing an autonomous payment system, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he addressed the 21st edition of the April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development hosted by the Russian HSE University, BelTA learned from the EEC press service.
“Today it is important to respond adequately and effectively to external challenges caused by subjective factors, to reduce sanctions risks,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. “One of the ways is to dedollarize mutual settlements, to set up an autonomous payment system in the EAEU. This issue is being discussed at different levels. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov touched on it during his visit to Iran."
A digital initiative to create the BRICS PAY settlement system will be reviewed at a meeting of the EEC Advisory Board for Interaction and the EAEU Business Council on 16 April, Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
