EEC zero-rates import duties on critical imports

MOSCOW, 6 April (BelTA) – The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) approved the proposal of the parties to expand the list of products that are temporarily imported into the Eurasian Economic Union at a zero rate of customs duty, BelTA learned from the EEC.

“The new list includes a wide range of critical imports, in particular, food products and components for their production, packaging materials, chemical products, component parts for the production and repair of vehicles. As to the commodity items that are within the scope of authority of the EEC Board, the decision on them will be made in the near future,” the EEC explained.

“In addition to that, taking into consideration the external restrictions and the short validity of customs and tariff regulation, it was decided to drop the requirement to confirm the intended purpose of the main part of imported goods,” Member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission Andrei Slepnev said. He clarified that this move also extends to the benefits previously approved by the EEC.

The new decision of the EEC Council will apply to legal relations that arose on and after 28 March 2022.

Earlier, the decision of the EEC Council dated 17 March 2022 exempted food products and goods used for their production from import duties through 30 September 2022. In addition, tariff benefits applied to goods that are used for the production and sale of food products; goods for the production of pharmaceutical, metallurgical and electronic products; goods used in developing digital technologies; goods for the production of light industry products, as well as goods used in the construction and transport industries.
