Dozens of foreign delegations to attend economic forum in Smorgon

GRODNO, 23 May (BelTA) – Over 40 foreign delegations will take part in the economic forum and the regional exhibition Northern Vector of Grodno Oblast which are due to take place in Smorgon on 25 May, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairwoman of the Smorgon District Executive Committee Tatiana Shcheberyako.

The economic forum “New Opportunities and Cooperation Prospects” and the Northern Vector of Grodno Oblast exhibition are annual events for one of the northern regions of Grodno Oblast. Smorgon will host the presentation of the investment potential, projects and doing business proposals for the region. The exhibition will feature products of industrial and agricultural companies, small and medium-sized business of Oshmyany, Ostrovets and Smorgon districts.

“Taking part in the economic forum will be businessmen and investors from Belarus and abroad. These will be both regular participants and potential partners. We expect over 40 delegations from Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine,” Tatiana Shcheberyako said. The program will include the signing of agreements, cooperation roadmaps and contracts.

The international economic forum will be divided into five sections. Businessmen, experts, scientists, representatives of companies and local authorities will dicuss cooperation in industrial production and energy, development of trade and economic relations between the regions of different countries. Another section will highlight the promotion of a cluster model of economic development into the economic and management system of the northern region of Grodno Oblast. One more section will focus on tourism and the possible inclusion of the north of the oblast into the visa-free zone.

This year, the forum will feature two new sections. One of them will showcase the best startups and business ideas from the youth of three districts. The other section will be dedicated to the preservation of baranka (bagel) production in Belarus. Taking part in it will be representatives of state and private bakeries. “Smorgon is an ancient baranka capital of Belarus,” Tatiana Shcheberyako. She stressed that the Smargonskiya Abaranki fair will be held alongside with the forum. Smorgon was once famous for its bakeries across the Europe. Today the region is reviving its traditions.
