MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Belarusian First Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Sergei Fedchenko told the media about the main drivers of growth in the domestic dairy industry on the sidelines of the second international forum “Agriculture of Belarus. Dairy Farming”.

“In the 1970s-1990s, the main factors contributing to the growth in the dairy cattle industry were the increase in feed consumption and a slight rise in cattle productivity. Since 2000, the dairy industry has relied on methods that prioritize efficiency over quantity: improving breeding techniques and forage production, construction and renovation of dairy farms, as well as advanced technologies for milk production and for breeding of replacement young animals,” Sergei Fedchenko said.

According to him, a number of government programs were adopted to raise the efficiency of dairy farming and to improve milk production technologies. These goals were achieved through the upgrade, renovation and construction of dairy farms.

“These programs helped ensure a steady increase in milk production. This allows us to meet domestic needs and consistently grow the export of dairy products. This work continues as part of the Agricultural Industry government program set to run in 2021-2025. Belarus positions itself as a producer of organic, high-quality products from local raw materials,” the first deputy agriculture and food minister added.
