MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) - The Belarusian national budget ran a deficit of about Br1.7 billion in Q1 2021, Belarusian Finance Minister Yuri Seliverstov told the media, BelTA has learned.

"In Q1 the national budget received Br5.617 billion in revenues, which was up by 9% over January-March 2020. Expenses were higher, at Br7.385 billion. We are within the planned parameters, the budget was initially approved with a deficit," Yuri Seliverstov said.

According to him, revenues come on schedule."As far as expenses are concerned, wages and assistance from the Social Security Fund are the priority. In Q1 the fund's expenses came at about Br700 million, which was related to sick leaves. The basic social obligations are being fulfilled," the minister stressed.

As for local budget revenues, they increased by about 14% compared to the same period of last year. "Local budgets were also approved with deficits. In Q1, revenues exceeded expenses, with a surplus reaching Br159 million. So these figures are better than planned. This is despite the additional expenses to finance COVID-19 allowances, medicines," Yuri Seliverstov said.
