Deadline for integrating nuclear power plant into Belarusian power grid shifted

MINSK, 30 April (BelTA) – The government has extended the time period, during which the Belarusian nuclear power plant is supposed to be integrated into the national power grid. The relevant resolution of the Council of Ministers was published on the national legal information website law.by on 30 April, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant was supposed to be integrated into the national power grid in 2016-2020 in line with the integrated plan of development of the power engineering industry for the period till 2025. The timeframe was shifted to 2016-2025. Among other things the deadline for design studies and the installation of electric heaters in boiler houses of enterprises outside the Belarusian national electric company Belenergo was shifted to 2025. The construction of peak and backup energy sources based on gas turbine plants or gas reciprocating plants was shifted to 2016-2021. There are plans to commission up to 800MW of peak and backup energy sources.

The development of legislation to regulate electricity pricing will be done in 2016-2025.

The period to take measures to set up a wholesale electricity market was extended through 2025.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using a Russian design featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
