Continental tire maker to buy more metal cord from Belarusian BMZ in 2019

GOMEL, 27 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian steel mill BMZ and the international tire maker Continental have signed a contract on record high metal cord deliveries in 2019. The Belarusian company intends to delivery 32,800 tonnes of metal cord, BMZ Press Secretary Alexander Olesik told BelTA.

The figure will be the highest one on record in the 23 years of cooperation between the two companies. BMZ started working with the internationally recognized tire manufacturer back in 1995 by selling 15,000 tonnes of metal cord. The deliveries have more than doubled since then.

In 2018 BMZ shipped nearly 30,000 tonnes of metal cord to Continental factories located in Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Czechia, Mexico, Ecuador, and Russia.

Since the beginning of 2018 BMZ has made about 91,000 tonnes of metal cord. The bulk of it was exported to 17 countries. The top buyers are Russia, Germany, Czechia, Romania, and Slovenia.

BMZ offers over 100 metal cord designs. The company started manufacturing metal cord in 1987 when the first steel wire shop was commissioned. The second steel wire shop was commissioned in 1991, allowing the company to rack up metal cord production.

The public joint-stock company (OAO) BMZ – managing company of the holding company BMC is a high-tech Belarusian metallurgical company. BMZ has four enterprises united by a single process flow – a steel smelting division, a rolling division, a pipe division, and divisions making hardware items and supplying work tools and implements. BMZ exports over 80% of the output every year.
