Companies from China, Italy, S Korea bidding for Grodno Azot project

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) – Companies from China, Italy or the Republic of Korea are out for bid for the general contractor to build a new nitrogen facility at Grodno Azot. The negotiations involving five applicants are currently underway, Grodno Azot Director General Igor Bobyr told BelTA.

“In accordance with the Belarusian legislation we announced the procedure of pre-qualification of the bidders. They were assessed against nine criteria. But as it turned out the bidders could not pre-qualify because they do not fully comply with these nine criteria. Therefore, in accordance with the legislation, we announced the next procedure – the procedure of negotiations,” Igor Bobyr noted.

The packages with technical and economic proposals from five bidders were opened during the negotiations. These are the Chinese companies China National Complete Plant Import and Export Corp Ltd, CITIC Construction Co Ltd, China Machinery Industry Construction Group Inc and Italy's Tecnimont S.p.A (who had previously participated in the pre-qualification procedure) and Samsung Engineering Co., Ltd. from South Korea.

Grodno Azot has set up a group of experts to review the documentation. Preliminary findings will be announced on 30 September.

“We are to select the general contractor by the end of the year,” Igor Bobyr added.

As it has been reported, the new facility project is estimated at more than $1 billion. The project will help Grodno Azot to increase the output of nitric fertilizers 1.5 times and reduce prime production costs by 15%.
