China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone to host Belt and Road forum in July

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – An international forum Belt and Road will take place in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone in July, BelTA learned from Kirill Koroteyev, First Deputy Director General of SZAO Industrial Park Development Company.

The official said: “Plans have been made to hold the forum on 1-3 July. We are now in negotiations with the Chinese side about the level of participation, technical matters, and the confirmation of the mentioned dates. Once all of it is approved, we will move from domestic work on these matters to the external contour.”

Kirill Koroteyev continued: “Countries, which are partners within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative, as well as the countries we see as fit to host potential resident companies will be invited to participate in the forum. Naturally, those are China, Russia, Germany, Austria, Czechia, and Poland – in other words, the countries, which belong to our branch of the Silk Road, countries, with which Belarus already has relations, countries, for which our market is more or less understandable from the point of view of investments.”

The first international forum Belt and Road took place in May 2017. It attracted heads of 29 countries and international organizations. Participants of the forum discussed ways to advance economic cooperation between countries belonging to the Silk Road Economic Belt, in particular, the formation of a transport, energy, and trade corridor between Asian and European countries.

Belarus represents a key link in the Belt and Road initiative taking into account the successful implementation of the project to create the industrial park Great Stone in the country. China President Xi Jinping described the park as a pearl of the Silk Road.
